Kathleen Smith, BABE Beauty Bar Founder and CEO

This week we’ve been featuring wedding makeup looks in honor of Kathleen Smith, founder of BABE Beauty Bar and bride-to-be! Kathleen will be getting married this weekend to Matt Forbush at the Ocean Club in the Bahamas. Kathleen shares some of her must-do beauty tips and makeup advice for blushing brides…

BABE Blog: What’s your daily beauty routine?

Kathleen Smith: In the morning I wash my face with Jan Marini Benzoyl Peroxide Wash, then I follow that with Jan Marini Anitoxidant Hydro Silk moisturizer. I then mix my Shiseido eye cream with Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer for under eyes. If I have a blemish I cover it with Murad Medicated Concealer (this is by far the best on the market in my opinion–right consistency and coverage plus treatment!). I follow that with my FACE Stockholm Mineral Moisturizer with SPF and a light dust of the FACE Stockholm Pressed Mineral Powder. In addition I use the Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil and whatever mascara I currently have in my makeup bag. I switch up colors for blush, eyes, and lips.

At night, I remove all makeup with a BABE Beauty Bar makeup remover wipe, then I wash with Jan Marini Gentle Cleanser. I follow this with Jan Marini Duality and C-ESTA Eye Repair Concentrate.

BB: What are your top 5 must-have beauty products?

KS: Anastasia Brow Pencil, FACE Stockholm Mineral Moisturizer, a good mascara, a good skincare regimen (not one product but this is a must-have), and bronzer.

BB: What 3 makeup items should no woman leave home without?

KS: For me I would say lip gloss, BABE Beauty Bar Blot Powder (because I get shiny and this is great for touch-ups without getting cakey), and concealer for any makeup mishaps or uh-oh moments when you get in the car and see yourself in different lighting. One tip from me: if you are like me and carry a mini makeup kit in your purse, look into drugstore buys. You can get good quality products for touch-ups  and if something falls out of your purse or you happen to leave it in the bathroom, it’s not as big of a loss as leaving your $30 NARS blush behind.

BB: What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever been given?

KS: I will have to echo Nicole in that your face is your canvas so take care of your skin and NEVER pick at a blemish.

BB: When did you know a career in beauty was for you?

KS: I have always loved makeup and fashion and I actually spent two summers studying fashion before I realized that I had a bigger passion for makeup.

Kathleen’s Bridal Bonus Tip: For bridal makeup I advise going to a professional. This is your one big day and these pictures will be around and framed on display for years to come. If you do decide to do it yourself my suggestion is play up your assets and enhance your beauty, try to keep the look natural and like yourself only better. Do a couple test runs and take pictures so you can make sure your makeup shows up and isn’t too light or dark, etc. Waterproof mascara is a must and a setting spray such as Model in a Bottle will keep you fresh all night.

Thanks for sharing your beauty tips and tricks, Kathleen, and congrats on the wedding!
